Tom Hennen grew up in a Minnesota farming family and worked with Robert Bly’s Minnesota Writers Publishing House cooperative in the 1970s. His poetry, until recently scarce and much prized by collectors and poetry-lovers, is informed by a life of attentive engagement with the natural world. Robert Bly writes, “One of the most charming things about Tom Hennen’s poems is his strange ability to bring immense amounts of space, of uninhabited space, into his mind and so into the whole poem.” His tone evokes the spiritual clarity and depth of the ancient Chinese poets. Copper Canyon Press has just reprinted most of his work in the new collection, Darkness Sticks to Everything, an essential volume of American poetry.
